When autumn arrives, bringing its cosy vibes and beautiful colours, we at Mello find ourselves excited to embrace its warmth. This is truly one of the most wonderful times of the year! Fall has arrived and you can still enjoy some beautiful weather, seeing the leaves change, and then – the pumpkins! I don‘t know what is it with pumpkins, but they make me nostalgic and inspire me to try some new activities with my daughter.

Whether you’re on a seasoned parenting journey or embracing new moments with your little ones, the Mello app is here to be your friendly guide, crafting delightful moments and connecting you with a supportive community. This is why I have created this list for you!

You can take any item of the following list and incorporate it into your family fall traditions, or take some of them and have a little pumpkin bash. Let these ideas inspire you to try something new and have fun. No need to feel pressured to do anything perfect – we want to give you some ideas to make daily life with kids more fun – and fall is just the right time for that. Why not meet some fellow Mello-parents and kids to share the activities with? Plus: throw on some costumes and you have yourself a little Halloween-Party.

Let’s dive in!

Kids crafting with pumpkin

How to throw a pumpkin bash for the little ones!

  • 🎃 Splish-Splash Pumpkin Bath 🚿
  • 🎃 Pumpkin Dazzle & Decorate 🎨
  • 🎃 Pumpkin Yarn Art 🧶
  • 🎃 Pumpkin Sensory Play ✋
  • 🎃 Pumpkin Sweet Treats 🎂
  • 🎃 Pumpkin crafts 🤲

Splish-Splash Pumpkin Bath 🚿

Water play is a hit among little explorers! Gift them pumpkins of varied sizes (just not too big, they should be able to handle them independently) and watch as they gently wash them with soapy water, brushes, sponges, and of course dry them with towels. You’ll be surprised how gentle your little troublemakers can be.

You can use this as a standalone activity or a prelude to the next fun project!

Pumpkin Dazzle & Decorate 🎨

Now, let’s have some fun with somd good old glitter and paint. This is an amazing way to unleash your child’s creativity and is a much safer option than pumpkin carving! I prefer to do this activity outside, but feel free to adjust for indoor play.

Prepare a big plastic sheet (or cover your table) and lay out all kinds of decorations: paint (I recommend paint sticks), stickers, glitter, pens… you name it!

And in case you could not find a real pumpkin, no stress! You could use styrofoam ones, balloons or paper plate cutouts – or even oranges.

Pumpkin Yarn Art 🧶

Older kids involved? You should try this twist on the typical pumpkin carving: draw a simple design on a pumpkin, like a heart, moon or star. Hammer nails around these markings, then twist yarn around the nails to make a unique and beautiful design. Remember, supervision is key!

Pumpkin Sensory Play ✋ (+ extra treat!)

If you’re making pumpkin soup or pie, have the little ones help you! It will be an ooey-gooey experience for them: cut the pumpkin in half and let your kids remove the pulp and seeds (which you have to do anyway to cook the pumpkin) by using their hands or spoons.

Extra Treat: clean the seeds, coat them with melted butter, sugar and pumpkin spice or cinnamon and roast them – your house will smell amazing and you’ll have a yummy treat for later.

Pumpkin Sweet Treats 🎂

If you have time, prepare some pumpkin-shaped cookies (why not use store-bought dough?) and decorate them with the kids – of course, most of the sprinkles and chocolate drops will be devoured then and there, but fun nonetheless!

Pumpkin muffins would also be extra delicious!

Pumpkin crafts 🤲

Basically, any craft activity can be turned into a pumpkin craft activity: your kids love to use colour? Try painting, watercolours, paint sticks. Choose Halloween colors like orange, purple and black. Why not make a Halloween card for the grandparents or friends? White handprints on a dark paper can be turned into ghosts, orange ones into pumpkins.
Little ones like to use scissors and glue instead? Draw pumpkin shapes onto a piece of cardboard and let the kids cover it with pieces of orange or colorful paper. That’s a great activity to repurpose old magazines – or even dried leaves.

Enjoy the creative session!

We hope these activities sprinkle a bit of joy and playfulness into your autumn days! Remember, Mello is not just an app, it’s a community, a circle, a family, where every memory, big or small, is celebrated and understood.
